Introduction to Local Authority Housing Finance in Scotland

We are holding webinars entitled 'Introduction to Local Authority Housing Finance in Scotland’ during May and June 2021. These webinars give an introduction and overview of this important subject and are fully up to date with all developments.

There are three webinars:

  • Introduction to Local Authority Housing Finance in Scotland (revenue) - 9th September 2021 at 2pm
  • Introduction to Local Authority Housing Finance in Scotland (capital) - 14th September 2021 at 2pm
  • Introduction to Local Authority Housing Finance in Scotland (technical) - 21st September 2021 at 2pm

Each webinar will last about an hour and costs £30 plus value added tax (a total of £36).

These webinars are comprehensive and are designed for people who are not experts in housing finance, but who need to understand the basics and achieve an overview of what is going on. They are suitable for councillors, housing managers, tenant representatives, finance staff who have limited experience of local authority housing finance and others who realise that an understanding of housing finance can place them at an advantage!

  • Introduction to Local Authority Housing Finance in Scotland (revenue) refers to the Housing Revenue Account; Trends in Local Authority Housing Finance in Scotland; Rents; Service Charges; Supporting People; Bad Debts & Arrears; Management and Maintenance; Pensions; Housing Benefit, Universal Credit and Welfare Reform (including the devolution of welfare powers to the Scottish Government).
  • Introduction to Local Authority Housing Finance in Scotland (capital) refers to Capital Programmes; Scottish Housing Quality Standard; Asset sales, capital receipts and the ending of right to buy; Grants; Building new council houses and Regeneration;  Prudential Borrowing and Treasury Management.
  • Introduction to Local Authority Housing Finance in Scotland (technical) refers to the Political, Economic, Social and Technological context; Housing Scotland Acts 2010 and 2014 and 'Housing beyond 2021'; the role and expectations of the Scottish Government and Scottish Housing Regulator; Strategic Housing; Business & Financial Planning; Value for Money; Performance Management; Risk Management, Sensitivity analysis and Stress testing; and Asset Management.

All the webinars are fully up to date.

It is possible to ask questions during and after the webinar. Attendees will also receive a copy of the slides used, a very useful briefing paper and a CPD Certificate. A recording of the webinar is also available after it is completed.
