SALE OF HIGH VALUE COUNCIL HOMES

Webinar - Monday 9th January 2017 at 2.00pm

The Government was elected on a commitment to extend the ‘right to buy’ to housing association tenants and to fund this through the sale of high value council homes.

These ‘reforms’ will have a significant effect on the business plans of local authorities. In particular there is concern about the ability of local authorities to develop new homes to replace those sold. There is therefore a need for those involved in managing the finances of local authority housing services to understand the inter-relationship between these policies.

This webinar will examine the government’s proposals in detail including the provisions of the Housing and Planning Bill and consider all the implications for local authorities and the options available for managing those implications.

The webinar will address the following issues:
  • Sale of High Value Council Homes
  • The government's proposals - what is in the Housing and Planning Bill?
  • What is a high value home?
  • Will there be any exemptions?
  • Will this stop councils from building in high value areas?
  • How will the proceeds be divided between councils, housing associations and the government?
